Our specialty

Custom crating

Every crate we build starts with the item it protects. Oversize, fragile, delicate, or heavy, including machinery: our engineers design the crate around the piece and the trip it’s taking.

What we crate

If it's valuable, breakable, heavy, or awkward, it probably belongs in a crate.

Machinery & equipment

Industrial machines, generators, compressors, and tooling. Skidded, braced, and ready for a forklift.

Artwork, mirrors & glass

Paintings, framed pieces, mirrors, and glass panels, cushioned and held so nothing touches the walls of the crate.

Antiques & furniture

Heirlooms, clocks, and fine furniture, padded and blocked to keep finishes and joints safe.

Electronics & instruments

Lab, medical, audio, and IT equipment that needs cushioning and has to stay upright.

Taxidermy & trophy mounts

Fish, birds, and game mounts blocked in foam so fins, feathers, and antlers never take the load.

Chandeliers & clocks

Chandeliers, grandfather clocks, and other delicate pieces with parts that can't be allowed to swing.

Motorcycles & golf carts

Strapped and braced to a skid so they can't roll or tip, then enclosed for the trip.

Oversize & odd shapes

Pool tables, statues, carousel horses, signs, and anything that doesn't fit a standard box.

Crate types

An open crate around a blanket-wrapped item in a warehouse
Closed crates
Fully enclosed for fragile, high-value, or weather-sensitive items, and for freight that may be stacked.
Open (slat) crates
A rigid frame that protects sturdy items while keeping weight and cost down.
Skids
A heavy-duty base the item is bolted or strapped to, for machinery that mostly needs to be secured and moved by forklift.
Export crates
Built with ISPM-15 heat-treated, stamped lumber, as most countries require for wood packaging.
Custom pallets
Pallets built to the size and weight of the load, for freight that won't fit a standard pallet.

How a crating job works

  1. 1

    Measure & photograph

We record dimensions, weight, condition, and any weak points before anything is built.

  2. 2

    Design the crate

Our engineers choose the crate style, materials, cushioning, and bracing for the item and how it's shipping.

  3. 3

    Build & pack

The crate is built around the item, which is blocked, braced, and cushioned so it can't shift.

  4. 4

    Mark & hand off

Labeled with handling marks and final dimensions and weight, ready for your carrier, or delivered by us.

Common questions

How much does a custom crate cost?
It depends on the size, weight, and fragility of the item and the type of crate it needs. Send us the dimensions, rough weight, and a few photos through the quote form and we'll price it for you.
Do you crate on site, or do I bring the item to you?
Either. We regularly crate on site at homes, businesses, and warehouses, and in our own workshop. Tell us where the item is and whether it can be moved, and we'll recommend the safest option.
Can you help ship it, too?
Yes. Along with crating and protective packing, we help coordinate the freight and shipping, or deliver it ourselves anywhere in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and the area within about 100 miles.
Can you crate for international shipping?
Yes. Export crates are built with ISPM-15 heat-treated, stamped lumber, which most countries require for wood packaging.
Can you build a crate to our specifications?
Yes. Send your drawings or packaging specs and we'll build to them, or our engineers will design the crate for you.
Can you handle repeat or high-volume crating?
Yes. We build one-of-a-kind crates and high-volume runs alike, for businesses that ship the same product again and again.
Can you handle a rush or emergency job?
Often, yes. Call us at (225) 773-5227 and tell us what it is and when it has to ship, and we'll tell you what we can do.
Can you uncrate it at the other end?
Yes, anywhere in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and the area within about 100 miles. We'll uncrate the item, set it in place, and haul away the crate.
What should I include in my quote request?
Length, width, and height in inches, an approximate weight, photos from a few angles, where it's going, and when it needs to ship. If it has a manual or spec sheet, that helps too.
